Spider-Man 2 Themed PlayStation 5 Console, Controller, Plates, and More! Cover

Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 was in full show at this year's San Diego Comic-Con with a new trailer showcased that revealed a new themed PlayStation 5 console bundle. The bundle includes a Spider-Man themed 825 GB PlayStation 5 Console, a Spider-Man themed controller, and a voucher for a digital copy of the standard edition of the game. You will also get all the preorder items such as an early unlock Arachknight Suit for Peter with 3 additional color variants, an early unlock Shadow Spider Suit for Miles with 3 additional color variants, an early unlock Web Grabber gadget, and 3 skill points. For those who already have a PS5 and don't want to miss out on this new Spider-Man 2 themed console, you're in luck as Sony is offering both the faceplates and the controllers for sale separately.

This is similar to the first games PlayStation 4 Pro/Slim bundle but there are notable downgrades. The PlayStation 5 bundle only includes a digital version of the game whereas the first game included a physical copy. It's a shame Sony seems to be doing away with physical media in their console bundles, even the God of War Ragnarok console bundle also offering only a digital copy. While it makes sense to offer the digital code for their digital-only PlayStation 5 model, I'm not sure why they didn't just include the physical copy for their regular PS5 model.

One other downgrade worth mentioning is the the lack of DLC this time around. The PlayStation 4 Spider-Man console bundles came with all the purchasable DLC the game had ended up receiving. At the moment Spider-Man 2 has no plans for story DLC it seems, so it's totally possible the game just won't get any story DLC, but with the slight chance that it does get DLC down the line, it's a shame Spider-Man 2 bundle consumers miss out on what was offered to Spider-Man 1 bundle consumers. Oh, and I just realized that at the moment (according to the PlayStation blog) it looks like the bundle doesn't include the Digital Deluxe Editions DLC suits! Low-blow Insomniac games (if true).

With all that aside, here are some more details regarding Spider-Man 2's plot from the Senior Narrative Director Jon Paquette at Comic Con, so if you want to go into the game blind avoid the rest of this article. At the beginning of our story, our Spider-Men are at the top of their game, but both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are struggling with their personal lives. Miles is trying to find time to write his college entrance essay, but he keeps procrastinating and focusing on Spider-Work instead. Meanwhile, Peter is underwater on payments for Aunt May’s house, but he can’t sell, it means too much to him. And just like Miles, Peter tries to find balance with so many responsibilities. MJ wants to help Pete with the mortgage, but her job is on the line now that J. Jonah Jameson is back at the Bugle and looking to clean house. Our heroes have arrived at a confluence of crossroads, with uncertain futures, and some tough decisions ahead.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Venom Suit

Now onto the speculation part of this article. One big thing that people are still wondering about is who Venom is in Spider-Man 2. Is it Harry who has taken the mantle before or the more known host Eddie Brock? The trailer seems to give off that it's Harry as the symbiote seemingly promises to help (Harry) heal the world. But like in the first game that kept its big bad Doc Ock a secret, many are speculating that Insomniac Games is doing the same here with Eddie Brock being kept a secret.

You may ask "Why would Eddie Brock possibly be in Spider-Man 2?" Like Twitter users have pointed out, both the original game and Miles game have referenced Eddie Brock existing in Insomniacs Spider-Universe. One of the references informed us that he worked at the Daily Bugle at some point. With the Daily Bugle seemly having a bigger role in the sequel with J. Jonah Jameson coming back to the Bugle and looking to clean house, a Mary Jane/Eddie Brock dynamic would make complete sense. Would Insomniac really reference Eddie Brock in both their games and not include him in his most iconic role as Venom? Guess we'll find out. Thanks for reading!
