More Pikmin 4 details are coming in Nintendo's Direct Showcase tomorrow

Article

Without E3 most of the biggest video game publishers today have created their flavor of showcase to reveal upcoming games. Nintendo has without a doubt been at the forefront of the modern showcase when they decided to create what they call Nintendo Directs many years ago. Well, it's that time of the year again and tomorrow we will once again get a Nintendo information drop on not only the forever-in-development Pikimin 4 but also other Nintendo Switch games releasing later in the year.

What is Pikmin 4 about?

Pikmin 4 is a real-time strategy game that was first announced way back in 2015 via the series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and it has gone through periods of doubt on whether the project would ever see the light of day. That day has finally come though as not only did we get a new trailer at last year's Nintendo Direct but also most recently in January during another direct we found out that on July 21st we would finally take part in Captain Olimar's latest adventure.

There's been a fair share of details released regarding Pikmin 4 and information points towards many similarities between the gameplay in Pikmin 3 and the latest entry. Of course, what would a new Pikmin game be without new additions to the types of Pikmin? In Pikmin 4 not only will there be a refreshed deployment mechanic but also new Pikmin abilities such as ice that allow for all kinds of interesting puzzles to solve.

The story revolves around the series protagonist Captain Olimar's crash landing on an unknown planet and his rescuers from the Rescue Corps unfortunately also crash landed. Now you as the latest recruit to the Rescue Corps are being sent out to not only save Olimar but also the Rescue Corps. What could possibly go wrong in this scenario right?

What other games are releasing this year for the Nintendo Switch?

We've already seen the biggest Nintendo game of the year with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. So most will be plenty happy with sinking many more hours in Zelda before they become interested in picking up another game this year. But that doesn't mean Nintendo isn't still packing a solid schedule for the rest of the year either, so let's view the entire schedule below.

  • Everybody 1-2-Switch | June 30
  • Pikmin 4 | July 21
  • Disney Illusion Island | July 28
  • Super Bomberman R 2 | September 13
  • Mortal Kombat 1 | September 19
  • Front Mission 2: Remake | 2023
  • Many indie games

So while The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will most likely go down as many Nintendo Switch owners game of the year, that doesn't mean there are not some solid options once you complete Link's latest trials. Will Nintendo announce any new projects in the works, it's certainly possible but don't be surprised by the lack of surprises. I have also not seen any hints that the long-rumored Nintendo Switch 2 or the forever-in-development Metroid Prime 4 will be making their appearance either so do not tune in tomorrow expecting miracles. Now for those still interested in what time you can watch tomorrow's event, it will take place at 10:00 AM EST.
